MORE than 70 people descended on the town's first LGBT hate crime conference.

During the event, which was organised by members of Trans Warrington, visitors were invited to discuss the impact of hate crime, how to put a stop to this type of behaviour and the support available.

Representatives from Cheshire Police, Warrington Borough Council, Stonewall and Asda were also in attendance.

Organiser Michelle Winstanley said: "It has helped our community to build the confidence to interact with the police and at the same time it has given an insight to the wider community about what we have to face on a daily basis.

"Personally it has helped me to meet new people from the services of our town and to hopefully work alongside those newly found allies."
