ORGANISERS of this year's Warrington Music Festival have confirmed the event will still go ahead this weekend.

Legends of the 90s music scene Cast, Space and Clint Boon will be performing in the Old Marketplace during a bank holiday of free live music on Saturday and Sunday.

A Golden Square spokesman said: “Ensuring the safety of everyone – our staff, guests and performers – is always our number one priority, and is even more paramount given the events of the last 24 hours.

“We have implemented a number of increased security measures, including upping the number of staff and security personnel and carrying out more vigilant searches using trained staff.

"We also continue to liaise with police and counter terrorism units to ensure they are happy with our arrangements and that they have a presence at the event.

“We are doing everything in our power to make sure the event goes ahead and that everyone is safe, however following last night’s shocking tragedy the thoughts of everyone at the centre remain primarily with each of the families and individuals affected.”

The Courteeners have also confirmed their show at Emirates Old Trafford on Saturday will be going ahead as planned.

A statement from frontman Liam Fray said: "Following last night’s terrible and tragic events, we send our love and thoughts to all families affected and to our emergency services who were so quick and brave.

"Togetherness, community and spirit course through the veins and flood the streets of this city.

"I’ve seen it every day since I’ve been old enough to realise what compassion and empathy are. Last night we witnessed it at a level we thought we’d never have to.

"In tragic circumstances, Manchester stood together. Because that’s what we do. Homes offered, rides home given, an outpouring of love … Grief shared.

"This will hurt. For a long time. But as you walk around town today try not to bow your head. Look up at the skies.

"We’ll see you on Saturday. X"

Earlier today, Take That announced their Liverpool show tonight and Manchester shows later this week have all been postponed.
