A LARGE number of felled trees in a forest off Manchester Road between the M6 and Rixton has been set alight.
Firefighters from Birchwood were called to the scene of the blaze, around half a mile from the motorway, at 12.35pm.
The crew is unsure whether the blaze was caused by controlled burning left unattended or by arson.
A hose reel jet was used to fight the flames and luckily nobody was reported hurt.
