WARRINGTON South's Independent parliamentary candidate believes he will have 'more clout than someone from a major party' in Westminster – if he causes a shock to become MP.

John Boulton is battling for the seat against Tory David Mowat, Labour's Cllr Faisal Rashid and Liberal Democrat Cllr Bob Barr.

Mr Boulton has also dismissed the prospect of a Theresa May landslide when the country goes to the polls on June 8.

He said: "I'm standing for what is exclusively best for the residents of Warrington South, without fear or favour to a political party.

"It's a statement of fact that when a political party gets elected to a constituency, the MP chosen is already conflicted from acting in the best interests of the constituents that elected them – this is because of the party whip.

"In contrast, an independent can only vote for what's best for the electorate who voted them in.

"This election is going to be closer than the experts are calling – after the 2015 election and Brexit there is voter fatigue.

"People will resort back to their default voting position, so the predicted massive majority will not happen.

"If an independent is elected to Warrington South I believe they will have more clout than someone from a major party.

"Locally, there is a need to fight the Mersey tolls and to force Peel Ports to take action on the maintenance work to the swing bridges.

"The council should start building council houses and they can do this using the 2011 Localism Act – if they build and own them the rent will be cheaper.

"If the rental yield to landlords falls, the price of houses will have to fall and this will make it cheaper for people to get on the property ladder.

"Nationally, HS2 is designed to make everything easier for London and £42 billion is a lot to spend on a train track – the Government should also take in rail franchises as they fall over or come up for renewal."
