ST Rocco's charity shop is set to move into the former Post Office at The Cross in Lymm.

The Post Office and Harrisons store suddenly closed its doors in November after the postmaster resigned and the company appealed for retailers to step forward to takeover the service.

But the shop has now been handed over to St Rocco's.

The charity announced it will be opening its doors at the new venue on June 23 after moving from its premises near the canal bridge, which the shop has occupied for 30 years.

Retail manager for St Rocco’s Eric Russell said: “Our fantastic volunteers work so hard to make our shop in Lymm a success and they are very excited that they will soon be operating in a retail unit which is so much more fit for purpose.

“Not only are there very steep steps up to the entrance of the existing shop, but also a set of narrow steps inside which make moving the stock around a challenge for the volunteers.”

A spokesman for the charity said short stay parking spaces outside the shop will also make it easier for people to drop off donations of clothes or household items.

The site is expected to be more accessible for customers with pushchairs or wheelchairs and there will be a larger space to display products.

St Rocco's first charity shop in the village opened on the site of Lloyds Bank before moving around the corner.

Link manager Betty Hughes, who has volunteered for the hospice since the beginning, said: “We’ve always enjoyed a challenge in the Lymm shop.

"We are so pleased to be moving in to a shop where we can make an even bigger contribution to ensuring that St Rocco’s, a charity that we all love, is there for people when they really need the specialist care that it offers."
