THE effective teaching at Burtonwood Primary is just one of the reasons why the school has been graded as outstanding by watchdog inspectors.

The school on Green Lane was given the highest rating available to Ofsted following a two-day visit at the end of March.

This is an improvement from the previous inspection in 2012 where the school was categorised as good following a routine visit.

In the report, Elizabeth Loftus, lead inspector, described the head teacher and deputy head teacher as ‘exceptional’ while leaders including governors are ‘committed to providing the best education possible for all pupils’ to create a ‘self-improving school’.

“Pupils’ behaviour is exemplary,” noted Ms Loftus in the report, which can be read in full on the Ofsted website.

“They clearly show consideration and respect to each other.

“Strong relationships exist between adults and pupils.

“A very strong culture of mutual respect and thoughtfulness is evident in all areas of school life.

“Pupils’ wellbeing is central to all aspects of school life. This is because staff share information.”

It was also noted how parents are overwhelmingly supportive of the school who typically describe Burtonwood Primary as ‘excellent’ or ‘wonderful’ and senior figures and teachers as ‘supportive’ and ‘approachable’.

While praise was heaped on the school in Burtonwood, inspectors urged staff to strengthen the leadership of early years to improve outcomes for pupils by the end of reception and to ensure teachers deploy teaching assistants more effectively to extend the learning of some pupils.
