PARAMEDICS were called to Bridge Street in the town centre this afternoon following a crash involving a car and van.
Police have confirmed that Academy Way, Friars Gate and Barbauld Street are currently closed.
Firefighters and a construction crew working nearby helped free a woman in her 70s who was trapped inside the car.
An ambulance was called to the scene at around 2.10pm and have taken the woman to Warrington Hospital.
Emergency services remain at the crash scene at the junction of Bridge Street and Academy Way.
This has caused congestion across the town centre.
