A SECOND suspect has been charged over the death of an ex-Royal Navy officer who is believed to have been run over by his own car.

Raymond Davies, 21, from Manchester, has been charged with manslaughter, burglary, and aggravated vehicle taking after 35-year-old Mike Samwell died shortly after he was confronted by thieves outside his home in Chorlton.

Mr Samwell, who worked as a programme manager for engineering firm Atkins in Risley, was woken by intruders on April 23 at 3am as he slept upstairs at his home in Chorlton with his wife Jessica.

Davies is expected to appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court later.

In April, Ryan Gibbons, 29, from Chorlton was charged with murder, burglary and aggravated vehicle taking.

He appeared in court on April 29 where the case was transferred to Manchester Crown Court.

A 15-year-old boy from South Manchester was arrested on suspicion of murder and burglary and has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Two men aged 20 and 21 who were arrested on suspicion of murder and burglary have also been bailed pending further enquiries.
