ARE you a proud teacher who thinks their class deserves special recognition for their hard work?

Or has one of your students gone the extra mile this year in their studies or their hobbies outside of the classroom?

The Warrington Guardian Schools Awards are back and tomorrow is your last chance to honour the contribution made by teachers, youngsters, apprentices and support staff in our education establishments.

There are prizes in 12 categories up for grabs and the winners, selected by a panel of judges, will be invited to the awards ceremony at the Village Hotel on June 28.

The winner of the head teacher of the year award in 2016, Colleen Everett from Sacred Heart Primary School, shared her feelings about how much the nomination meant to her: “I feel totally honoured to have been awarded head teacher of the year for doing a job I love.

“Although we don’t do our job to be rewarded or thanked, it is still incredibly touching to have someone take the time to nominate you.

“There are so many head teachers who work incredibly hard and so to be chosen for the award was overwhelming.

“My trophy stands in pride of place in my office.”

And the prizegiving does not just honour the staff who work so hard at our schools.

Last year parents and teachers also nominated their inspiring students for awards including the class of the year, primary school pupil of the year, high school pupil of the year and apprentice of the year.

And the lifetime achievement award was created to pay tribute to a teacher, governor or member of staff who has dedicated their career to education. The winner of the 2016 award was Deb Feltham, head teacher at Sankey Valley St James’ Primary School.

Individuals or institutions can enter more than one category and the final date for entries is tomorrow, May 19.
