LAST orders might have been called at the Touchdown Club when Warrington Wolves moved away from Wilderspool in 2003, but the ‘iconic’ fans bar is set to make a comeback.

The Touchdown Club will be brought back for the Wire’s clash with Wigan Warriors in the Challenge Cup Quarter Final next month.

Warrington Wolves’ business development executive Richie Mathers experienced the social club when he played at Wilderspool on loan from Leeds Rhinos in 2002.

Mathers, who won two Challenge Cups after returning to the club in 2009, said: “I remember the Touchdown Club well with its iconic glass front and everything that went with it.

“It was a special and unique place for lots of people so we’re going to bring back the essence of it.

“The interest it has generated already has shown the nostalgia that people remember it with.

“It’s going to be a really unique day that will bring back lots of memories for people, and it will be an opportunity for people who used to go in the Touchdown Club to get back together.”

Wire heroes past and present will be appearing in the new Touchdown Club, which will open in the Legends Lounge in the Halliwell Jones Stadium’s East Stand before and after the game on Saturday, June 17.

The Touchdown Club could become a regular fixture at matches if it proves to be a success with fans.

Mathers added: “We’re really excited – the team here have put a lot of focus into the newly-refurbished Legends Lounge and remembering our roots and heritage.

“A massive Challenge Cup quarter final game against Wigan will be a really good time to pack that lounge out and make it a different experience.

“We believe people will buy into it and we will certainly look to carry it on if there’s a big uptake.”

Tickets for the Wigan clash are now on sale at the club shop, over the phone on 248888 or online at warringtonwolves.com and are available at standard Super League game prices.
