TWO men have appeared in court after a 21-year-old man was knocked down in Burtonwood on Sunday.

Robert, 33, and Thomas Baker, 24, of Pinewood Road, Burtonwood, were arrested after police were called to Chapel Lane on Sunday at 6.30pm following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian.

Following enquiries by officers, the two suspects were taken into custody to be questioned.

The 33-year-old has since been charged with GBH with intent and dangerous driving while the 24-year-old has been charged with GBH with intent.

Both suspects appeared at Warrington Magistrates' Court this morning.

But due to the severity of the charges against the two suspects, the case has been transferred to Liverpool Crown Court.

The next hearing will take place on June 13.

Investigations are ongoing into the events which unfolded on Sunday evening but detectives have issued an appeal for anyone with information to come forward including the driver of a light-coloured Mercedes which is believed to have been in the area at the time.

It is believed the suspects’ car narrowly missed crashing into the Mercedes near to Burtonwood Community Centre on Chapel Lane.

The victim's injuries are not known at this time.

Police have since confirmed that patrols have been stepped up in the area to reassure members of the public.

DS Mark Naylor said: "Incidents of this nature are very rare in Warrington.

"We want to reassure the public that swift action has been taken in this case and there will be more patrols in the area."
