PHOTOS capturing the scene of a shooting of an unarmed man have been released as the inquiry reaches its final stages.

Anthony Grainger, from Bolton, was killed after a single bullet was fired by a police marksman – known only as Q9 – while he was sat inside a stolen red Audi A6 estate in the corner of a car park off Jackson Avenue in Culcheth on March 3, 2012.

For the past three months, an inquiry into the 36-year-old's death has been heard at Liverpool Crown Court. More here.

Photographs of the scene in the car park immediately after the incident took place have been released.

A judgement is expected to be returned later this year.

North West law firm Farleys Solicitors have worked with Mr Grainger’s family over the last five years as they have tried to discover the truth about what happened.

As the inquiry draws to close this week after three months of evidence, Mr Grainger's family have issued a statement.

A spokesman said: “Anthony was a committed family man.

"He adored his children and was a loving son and brother.

"Over the last four months we as a family have had to listen to evidence revealing a catalogue of failings in the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) operation that led to his death."

The spokesman added: “At the start of this inquiry GMP were encouraged to adopt an open and honest approach.

"Lessons had to be learned and this could only be achieved with openness.

"Anthony’s mother Marina does not want any other mother to have to go through what she has been through.

“The family have absolutely no confidence in GMP or their willingness to learn from this incident.

"Until they stop trying to cover up their wrongdoing lessons will not be learned and other mothers run the risk of the same knock at the door and the same terrible news that Marina received in March 2012.”
