MEMBERS of Warrington Pensioners' club revived the tradition of dancing around the maypole to celebrate the month of May.

As well as the attendance of the May Queen and her attendants, the group put on their best dancing shoes to take part in the folk dance under the watchful eye of Carol Howard.

Gwyneth Thomas, who dressed up as a fairy for the dance, said: "One of our girls – Carol – is very interested in the pagan way of life.

"She gave a talk which was interesting and then helped us to dress up.

"It was an excellent day."

Warrington Pensioners meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at the Irish Club on Orford Lane.

Doors open at 12pm and anyone over the age of 55 is welcome to attend.

"There is tea and coffee and even a drink of whisky if they wanted one," said Gwyneth.

"We have different people who come to talk to us with information and advice.

"We have parties, socials and trips to the theatre."
