THE sun came out for the first #WalkitWednesday last week.

And the forecast for tomorrow is another bright and sunny day.

Teachers, parents and children put their best foot forward and walked to school rather than taking the car as part of the Warrington Guardian's new campaign.

St Augustine's Catholic Primary School is one of the latest schools to sign up with a number of mums tweeting our @Warringtonnews account pictures of smiling faces during their stroll to school.

TV presenter Carol Vorderman also tweeted her support for the event which will run every Wednesday ahead of the school summer holidays.

Suzanne Parry, head teacher at St Augustine's, said: "As a school we have been working hard to increase levels of active travel in order to improve the health and well-being of our children and their families.

"We have participated in the Modeshift Stars national schools award scheme that has been established to recognise schools that have demonstrated excellence in supporting cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable travel.

"We are the first school in Warrington to have received the Silver Modeshift Star Award - something we are very proud of.

"Taking part in the #WalkitWednesday campaign will help with our push for ‘Gold’ as well as encouraging our children and their families to make healthier life choices."

It's easy to get involved with our campaign, supported by Warrington Borough Council.
