JAMES Rogers reports plenty of action at Worthington Lakes despite the level being dropped for inspection works.

Using a maggot feeder and double red on the hook, he caught 14 bream to 3.5lbs along with some quality roach. There are regular carp catches although no records are being broken.

Mike Pritchard, who had his previous week’s session on Statham Pool dramatically cut short when his wife locked herself out of the house, more than made up for it this week.

He fished his usual small waggler tactics using maggot and finally caster, which brought on better stamp roach to the 10oz mark plus a bonus carp of around 8lbs that gave him a few nail-biting moments on his 18’s hook to 1.5 hook length.

He had about fifty fish and reports a lot of small pike activity so probably worth a visit.

On Monday, the committee are introducing changes in an effort to improve peg accessibility for members during the summer months on Sandiway lakes.

It means simply that those ending their night session must leave the water by midday on their last day and those coming on for the night must not access the fishery before 2pm.

The idea is that this gives everyone a chance of a peg and prevents pegs being handed on to mates.

Our disabled and over 60s match, fished on the Bridgewater Canal at Daresbury, on Monday was a close-run thing with barely half a pound between the first four places.

John Dagnall led the field with 3lbs 10oz 8dr taken on pole and alternating between bread and pinkie.

Lenny Dutton was less than an ounce behind in the runner-up spot with 3-10-4. Catches were mainly roach and small skimmers with the exception of Stan Charnock, who weighed an eel of 1.5lbs.

There is no match next week due to the bank holiday.

A working party meets this weekend at Grey Mist Mere, which will be closed from 10am on Saturday. Only those who attend the working party can fish that night.

There is another on Sunday at The Mount ,starting at 9am. There is a regular group of volunteers, and if you fancy helping then ask for Derek Cowell or Brian Jones on site.

Our headquarters at Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7pm and 9pm for new members, subscriptions, night-permit renewals and any queries.

Please email catch details to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a call on 01928 716238.
