POLICE are appealing for help to find a group of men who broke into a home on Killingworth Lane in Birchwood in the early hours of Friday morning.

At around 3.30am four or five men forced their way into the house through the front door and assaulted the 56-year-old man living there.

Police are asking for help to trace the suspects, who were all wearing dark clothes and had their faces covered.

One of the men wore a grey flat cap.

Investigating officer DC Daryl Gavin said: “This was a serious incident and we’re committed to doing all that we can to trace the people responsible so that they can be brought to justice.

“The victim in this case has been left extremely shaken, suffering heavy bruising to his face and a possible broken nose as a result of the incident.

“As part of this investigation I’m keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and believes that they may have seen anything suspicious.”
