A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of stalking as police officers in Cheshire back a national campaign to tackle this type of crime.

The suspect was arrested yesterday, Sunday, in Latchford.

National Stalking Awareness Week – which started today, Monday, and will run until Friday – aims to help provide support to those who have been living in fear.

The campaign, which was launched by the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, will educate officers on recognising the signs of stalking from an early stage and focus on the methods behind attacks linked to stalking.

Warning signs could include sending unwanted gifts, rearranging a victim’s garden furniture or even reporting the victim to social services for poor parenting.

Detective chief superintendent Nigel Wenham from Cheshire Constabulary’s Public Protection Unit said: “By supporting National Stalking Awareness Week, it will help officers not only understand how to recognise the signs of stalking but to better engage with victims.

"People don’t often realise how much of a devastating impact stalking can have on victims and the way it can quickly turn their lives completely upside down.”

To report stalking call Cheshire Police on 101 or in an emergency dial 999.
