TACKLING the fly-tipping problem can feel like a never-ending challenge at times – especially for the Friends of Gorse Covert Mounds.

But their work will soon hit the small screen as part of this evening’s episode of Countryfile.

During the BBC programme Tom Heap is trying to find out if it is possible to get to grips with the issue as everyday across the UK thousands of piles of rubbish are dumped illegally.

A few weeks ago the crew travelled to Warrington to film the team and their efforts.

Nigel Balding, chairman, said: "They wanted to see locals who had been affected by fly-tipping.

"Initially I was a bit reluctant as we have tried to solve the issue and it just hasn’t gone away.

"We have tried everything - they recognised that it is a common thing throughout the country."

As part of the episode, the group were filmed planting gorse.

He added: "We have in the past organised events to remove the fly-tipping by hiring skips and filling them on action days.

"Unfortunately, as soon as we can clear it away it comes back which is hugely frustrating - a bath arrived this weekend.

"But Countryfile were able to film us doing something enjoyable and productive as well as seeing the ongoing problem."

This is not the first time the volunteers have been filmed for a TV show.

The group has previously appeared on Street Patrol UK with Dominic Littlewood.

Tune in today, Sunday, at 7pm or watch the programme after 8pm on BBC iPlayer.
