RESIDENTS have been able to enjoy a rare treat on Chester Road this spring.
A cherry tree with two different blossoms has been in full bloom.
It is thought the unique combination of an ornamental cherry, producing the large pink flowers, grafted onto a wild cherry, producing the small white flowers, is the result of poor pruning.
Gardening business Patch of the Planet sent in these shots of the bloomin' lovely sight.
Graham Richardson, head gardener at Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden, said: "This is quite rare but not unknown and is a result of poor pruning of a grafted tree.
"In fairness, the leaves probably all look the same when it comes to pruning, unlike say our Cut-leaved Beech, which is reverting to a Common Beech.
"You can buy ‘Family’ fruit trees which have several varieties grafted on to one tree."
Have you seen any other trees like this with white blossom on one side and pink blossom on the other?
