A HORSE has died after getting stuck in mud in High Legh despite rescue attempts.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service received reports shortly after 11am this morning that Murphy the horse had become stuck in mud on his side in a field off Wrenshot Lane.

Murphy was sedated by a vet and fire crews used specialist rescue equipment to get him back on his feet, but later died.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, which sent two engines and two rescue vehicles to the scene, said: “Sadly, despite the best efforts of the crews and the vet Murphy did not survive.”
