A REGENERATION project in Dallam has been dealt another boost after blueprints to build a further 20 houses were approved by councillors.

Plans to redevelop Harrison Square are progressing rapidly following the start of a major construction scheme to improve the area.

But now Helena Housing has been granted permission to build a further 20 properties on the land behind the now demolished Harrison Centre, which was built in the 1960s, on Boulting Avenue.

The blueprints were given the go-ahead by councillors at the development management committee meeting at the Town Hall on Wednesday, March 15.

The planning application, which was submitted by Helena Housing in partnership with Warrington Council to provide affordable housing, consists of the construction of two-bedroom semi-detached dwellings.

The redevelopment of Harrison Square and Harrison Centre area is part of the wider 'Delivering Wellbeing in Bewsey and Dallam' initiative, which aims to revitalise the area.

In November, 21 two-bed dwellings intended for affordable rent were approved by councillors on the Harrison Centre, which was vacated in June after 20 years of use by Warrington Borough Council’s community health team.

Staff were moved to New Town House on Buttermarket Street following the closure of the centre.

The development comprises of one detached property, seven semi-detached dwellings and two blocks of three terraced houses.

A total of 46 parking spaces have been earmarked for the development, including four for communal use and visitors.

Plans to build 24 homes and two retail units on the site of Harrison Square were passed in December 2015.

Earlier this year, Torus, a partnership between Helena Partnerships and Golden Gates Housing Trust, unveiled an ambitious new build programme focusing on the development of more than 1,600 homes by 2020.
