PLANS to open two new takeaways in Longford have been refused over fears the development would fuel the existing traffic problem in the area.
Councillors also raised concerns on the impact to the amenity if the plans were approved during the development management committee hearing at the Town Hall last week.
The number of existing food outlets already open in the surrounding area was also listed as a reason for refusal.
The blueprints to convert the ground floor of the property on Long Lane into two food takeaways were submitted last year.
This also included transforming the first floor of the building, which most recently housed a fireworks shop, to create two flats.
But the decision was referred to the committee after Cllr Mike Hannon (Orford - LAB) objected to the proposal over traffic issues and delivery trucks loading and unloading at the front of the site.
Following a discussion by councillors, the blueprints were refused.
