PLANS for Winwick Carnival are starting to take shape as the new committee prepares to host the annual festival later this year.

With just months to go until the much-anticipated festivities get under way, more help is needed to make sure this year’s event is the best carnival to date.

Last year thousands of visitors descended on Winwick Leisure Centre, off Myddleton Lane, to enjoy the attractions.

But this was the final event organised by the committee with a new team now taking over the reins.

Cllr Cathy Mitchell (Burtonwood and Winwick – LAB) is one of the volunteers who has agreed to give up their free time after stepping up to the role of chairman.

She said: “The committee started work on this year’s carnival shortly after the last one ended.

“We are now at the stage of putting our programme together and so are looking for businesses to advertise for as little as £25.

“It’s a great way of showing your business’ support for the Winwick community.”

The carnival will take place on Saturday, July 15.
Raffle prizes are needed as well as the support of volunteers.

She added: “We need volunteers who are willing to help out on the day, setting up the day before or clearing the field the day after.

“If you can lend a hand on any of those days we would be delighted to hear from you.”

More annoucements are expected over the coming weeks about what attractions visitors can expect at this year’s event.
