THE M62 had to close to allow an air ambulance to land following a crash this afternoon.
The multi-vehicle crash happened between junction 10 at Croft and junction 9 at Winwick.
Large queues have developed in both directions and on the M6.
Traffic was stopped westbound while the air ambulance landed and two lanes were shut eastbound.
The crash involved three vehicles.
Emergency services are on the scene and the air ambulance left around 7.10pm, allowing the road to reopen.
Two lanes remained closed eastbound while emergency services worked.
