PUPILS from schools across the town are begging the Government for fairer school funding by singing their own version of a musical favourite.

Youngsters recorded their take on the song Food Glorious Food from Oliver the musical, rewritten as Funds Glorious Funds.

Craig Burgess, head teacher at Woolston Community Primary School, wrote the lyrics in response to the Government's new funding formula.

The plans mean Warrington will remain the tenth lowest funding area in the country for education, with schools receiving £4,306 per pupil in comparison to the best funded areas, which will get an average of £6,775 per child.

Head teachers also face rising costs, but schools minister Nick Gibb has said that Warrington schools could see a budget boost of 0.6 per cent when the funding formula goes ahead in April 2018.

The Government is consulting on school funding until March 22. To have your say visit gov.uk/government/consultations/schools-national-funding-formula-stage-2.

The lyrics for Funds Glorious Funds

Is it worth the waiting for?
If we live till eighty four
All we ever get is bills!
Every day we say our prayer -
Will they change the bill of fare?
Still we get the same old bills!
There's not a pound, not a penny we can find,
can we beg, can we borrow, or cadge,
But there's nothing to stop us from getting a thrill
When we all close our eyes and imagine-

Funds, glorious funds,
New paper and pencils!
While we're in the mood -
Text books and stencils!
Maps, rulers and protractors
What next is the question?
Rich schools have it, boys
long term protection.

Funds Glorious funds
We’d like to get some
Five lessons a day
Please give us our lump sum
Oh it would be really great
To have what we need
Oh funds! wonderful funds! marvellous
funds! glorious funds!

Funds glorious funds
Oh what would it look like
pounds, pennies and sums
don't CARE what it looks like
Just thinking of passing SAT’s
our teachers are reeling
One moment of knowing that
well funded feeling

Funds glorious funds
What wouldn't we give for
That extra bit more
That's all that we live for
Why should we be fated to
Do nothing but brood on funds
Magical funds,
Wonderful funds
Marvellous funds,
Heavenly funds,
Plentiful funds,

Glorious funds
