DETECTIVE Chris Godby will never forget the moment he was deployed to provide assistance in a high-speed police chase involving a suspected gunman.

While this is part and parcel as life as an officer in America, the action was caught on camera as part of a new TV series Cops.

The 31-year-old, who moved to America from Great Sankey at the age of 21, was on a routine traffic stop when he received a call about the shooting.

The dad-of-two said: "The suspect was heading in my direction.

"I ended the traffic stop I was on and joined the high-speed pursuit which continued for several miles.

"The driver of the vehicle jumped out and ran on foot and the vehicle, which was still occupied, continued to roll down the street with no driver.

"At this time I wasn’t sure where the gunman was and had to make a split decision on whether I should stay with the vehicle or chase the driver.

"I chased the driver across a field as he jumped a fence and attempted to hide.

"I located the driver who was on probation for burglary and drew my duty issued gun as I did not know if he was still armed and took him into custody.

"During the pursuit I forgot about the camera crew due to the adrenaline of a possible shooting and my training took over."

Chris, who works for the Grand Prairie Police Department in Texas, wanted to be a police officer from an early age after he met officers from Cheshire Constabulary while at St Gregory's Catholic High School.

"It sounded like something I would enjoy doing but there are so many differences between living in Warrington and Texas," said Chris, who was promoted to the rank of detective in January 2016.

"Warrington will always be home as this is where my mum, dad and the rest of my family live and where my beloved Everton play.

"The weather is hotter here and this may sound strange but I carry a gun everywhere I go in Texas.

"It always feels weird not having one with me whenever I’m home.

"I live in the city I work in so I always have a badge and gun."

The episode of Cops has already been broadcast in America.
