KIND-hearted staff and students at Warrington Collegiate have been working on a cute and crafty way to raise money for charity this Easter.

Youngsters at the Winwick Road college have been putting their knitting skills to the test by creating a colourful clutch of chicks to sell in aid of Francis House Children’s Hospice.

More than 50 little birds have been knitted so far and each chick is filled with a Cadbury’s Creme Egg or other Easter treat.

Sharon Davies, personal assistant to the college’s leadership team, came up with the idea and is delighted with the response.

She said: “We’ve got chicks in every colour you can think of – we’ve even got chicks that look like Batman, the Hulk and Iron Man.

“We’re still on the hunt for more knitters to help create even more chicks. The more we can knit, the more we can raise for Francis House.

“We’re also in desperate need of more chocolate eggs. If anyone is able to donate any eggs, knitted chickens or spare wool, we would be extremely grateful.”

Each chick costs £1.50 and donations all go to Francis House, which offers free care to children with life-limiting diseases and their families.

In 2016, the Easter chick appeal helped raise more than £27,000 for the charity and students at the collegiate are hoping to do their bit for youngsters seeking care at the hospice.
