UNITE members from across Fujitsu Services Limited in the UK including staff at the Risley office have staged a 24-hour walkout.

Employees from the IT systems, services and products company voted in favour of the strike action over an ongoing dispute linked to jobs, union recognition, pay and pensions.

A picket line was set up on Technology Park off Daten Avenue today, Tuesday.

In October last year, the Japanese IT firm, which has 10,000 staff in the UK, announced plans to cut its UK workforce by around 1,800.

Unite has hit out at the decision which will affect staff at the Warrington office.

A spokesman for the union said: "We are campaigning to save jobs, avoid compulsory redundancies, and improve redundancy pay.

"Fujitsu’s senior management are not tackling the genuine the challenges the business faces, which would require investment to update our offerings to match what the market demands.

"Instead they are pursuing reckless cost-cutting to prop up profit rates in a shrinking business.

"Not only are the job cuts reckless, they are being handled disgracefully."

Fujitsu were contacted for a response to the strike but a spokesman said the company 'does not comment on industrial action'.
