A MAN who used a blue badge that did not belong to him in order to park in disabled spaces has been fined by magistrates.

Mohammed Yaquob, of Salisbury Street, was found on four separate occasions to have used a blue badge not belonging to him and that had expired in order to park in designated spaces for disabled people after an investigation by Warrington Borough Council’s counter fraud team.

On Wednesday, February 15, 31-year-old Yaquob was fined £69 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £30 plus £100 in costs at Warrington Magistrates' Court after admitting four offences.

Cllr Russ Bowden, Warrington Borough Council’s executive board member for corporate finance, said: “The blue badge scheme provides essential support to disabled people – misuse is socially unacceptable and we are cracking down on people who are using blue badges illegally.

“It is a crime to use a badge that does not belong to you and people using them fraudulently will be prosecuted.”
