WARRINGTON Wolves have been congratulated in a motion tabled in the House of Commons for their World Club Series victory over Brisbane Broncos.

The Wire ran out 27-18 winners at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Saturday night to claim the first victory for a Super League club over an NRL side since the World Club Series began in 2015.

Now a House of Commons has congratulated the team and Wigan Warriors, who beat Cronulla Sharks on Sunday in the World Club Challenge, for ‘restoring pride’ in Super League.

Greg Mullholland, chairman of the All-Parliamentary Rugby League Group, said: “This year’s World Club Series provided fantastic entertainment and members of the group are delighted with the wins for Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves.

“After five years of dominance by the NRL, these victories have restored pride to the Super League and I look forward to another enthralling season of domestic rugby league.”

Yvonne Fovargue, who was a councillor in Fairfield and Howley between 2004 and 2010 before becoming MP for Ashton in Makerfield, also backed the motion.

She added: “These were two brilliant performances by Wigan and Warrington against strong southern hemisphere opposition.”
