A GROUP of travellers who parked up on Centre Park at the start of the month have left the site.

But it has been reported the travellers have set up a new camp on land off Longshaw Street in Dallam near to St Mark's CofE Church.

Bailiffs with the support of officers from Cheshire Police were expected to descend on Centre Park this morning to evict a group of travellers who have been living on a car park.

But the security company for Centre Park has confirmed the group moved last night at around 9pm.

The group, who are believed to be Irish travelers, first arrived on Centre Park on February 1 after being evicted from a site in Daresbury, the Warrington Guardian understands.

But since relocating to Centre Park they have been evicted from a number of sites on the business park near to the town centre including Firecrest Court and Mandarin Point.

Around ten caravans were parked up on Kestrel Court.

An eviction notice was previously served on the group when they first set up camp on Kestrel Court just over two weeks ago.

This order still stands after the group moved back onto the same car park on Wednesday.

FortNox, who are employed by Centre Park Warrington Management Limited to provide security for the site, have had to increase staffing levels as a result of the camp sites.

The teams of security guards have been forced to block off roads to offices and car parks.

Mark Cooper, director of FortNox, said: “I have been working here for 24 years and I have never had to deal with travellers before.

“I have needed ten times as many staff.”

The security firm has reported a spate of vandalism in the area after a number of windows were smashed on two vacant buildings on Centre Park.

The council confirmed on Thursday that its officers were liaising with the owners of land where the travellers had set up camp near to the town centre.

A spokesman for Warrington Borough Council said: "An encampment comprising six caravans and associated vehicles arrived at private land on Cygnet Court at Centre Park.

"We are liaising with the landowner and onsite security."

A group of travellers moved onto a car park on Cygnet Court on Centre Park on Wednesday.

Witnesses reported seeing eight caravans park up near to a block offices at around 4.30pm.

The caravans left the area at around 5pm after security guards arrived at the scene.

Earlier this week a group of travellers settled at Firecrest Court.

Police were called after a worker on the business park was bitten by a dog.

Bags of litters have been left dumped on the site.

Cheshire Police have been contacted for a comment about the camp site.
