VOLUNTEERS are desperately needed to work with Birchwood firefighter cadets programme, which was set up 24 years ago.

Cheshire Fire’s initiative helps hundreds of youngsters aged 12 to 17 and volunteers do not need any firefighting experience.

While the project gives young people new skills and fun experiences, it can also be a career boost for volunteer leaders. They have the chance to gain qualifications, inspire youngsters and develop specialist new skills.

Nick Evans, head of prevention, said: “If you speak to any of our volunteer cadet staff they will tell you they do it because they love it. They enjoy the fun, friendship, action, adventure and practical activities the fire cadets provides.”
