WORK to improve the link to the Stadium Quarter in the town centre is close to completion.
Steel panels have been installed underneath the bridge between the bus station and Foundry Street.
Spikes have also been placed on the pavement next to the panels.
But council sources have confirmed they are not 'anti-homeless' spikes as have been introduced in some other areas of the country, with the design instead aimed to stop people bumping into the steel.
Work is expected to finish before next month.
The redevelopment of the Stadium Quarter is planned to create a new 'northern gateway' into the town centre following completion.
