A NUMBER of sheep have been rescued by firefighters at Lymm Dam this morning.

Crews from Penketh, Warrington and Stockton Heath and the rope rescue unit from Knutsford were called to the scene on Church Road at around 9.30am.

The sheep had got into difficulty in the water so firefighters used rafts to collect the animals and bring them to safety.

All the sheep made it safely to shore where they were handed back into the care of their farmer.

Cheshire Police reported a total of eight sheep has been spotted on the loose on Lakeside Road this morning.
