FIREFIGHTERS had a busy Saturday night after being called to incidents in Latchford, Chapelford and Great Sankey.

At around 5.15pm yesterday, Saturday, a crew from Penketh Fire Station was called to St Mary Street where flames and embers were seen coming out of the top of a chimney.

Cold water was used to dampen down the chimney and a log burner before a thermal imaging camera was used to check that the fire had not spread.

Later, at around 4.20am this morning, Sunday, firefighters from Penketh, Warrington and Stockton Heath were called to reports of a fire in a first floor flat on Boston Boulevard in Chapelford.

The fire started after cooking was left unattended and firefighters had to give oxygen therapy to a woman in the apartment after putting out the flames.

At around 5.30am, firefighters from Penketh Fire Station were called out again to reports of a car in flames on Liverpool Road.

An electrical fault is believed to be the cause of the fire and the crew used a hose reel jet to put out the flames.

Fortunately nobody was reported to be hurt in the incident.
