A 95-year-old man has appeared in court accused of attempted murder.
Denver Beddows, of Dam Lane, Woolston, was remanded in custody after making a first appearance at Chester Magistrates’ Court this morning.
But due to the severity of the charge the case has been transferred to Liverpool Crown Court with a hearing set for March.
A police cordon was put in place on Saturday after officers were called to a house on Dam Lane, Woolston, shortly before 11am.
Olive Beddows, 88, was rushed to Aintree Hospital where she continues to fight for her life after suffering serious injuries.
Police have confirmed she remains in a serious condition in hospital.
It is understood the couple were the only two people living in the property at the time.
Detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
Forensic teams remain at the scene today, Monday, as investigations continue.
One neighbour, who has lived on the street for 30 years, spoke of her sadness over the events that are alleged to have unfolded on Saturday.
She said: "We were out all day and came back to find lots of police cars on the street.
"The only problem we have around here is speeding. It's a very quiet street.
"It's all very sad."
