WE asked you to get snapping to help us produce a calendar celebrating the beauty of the area we live in and you definitely did not disappoint.

We have been overwhelmed with entries for the first round of our Through The Lens competition as we search for the picture that will start our 2018 calendar.

Our competition will run across our sister titles Northwich Guardian, Winsford and Middlewich Guardian, Knutsford Guardian and Wilmslow Guardian throughout this year as we look to find reader pictures suitable for each month.

Winners will be announced at the end of this year and invited to be part of our Guardian Through The Lens club where they can pick up tips from our picture editor Dave Gillespie.

For the month of January, this selection of frosty scenes, dark nights and bare trees have been selected for our first vote.

If your picture has not made it into our shortlist for January, don't get disheartened as it may be the case we feel it is more suitable for a different month.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO VOTED IN THE BALLOT AND OVER EMAIL. THIS VOTE HAS NOW CLOSED.

We will launch our search for our February photo in next week's paper so watch this space for more details.
