AN armed man struck at a betting shop in Orford on Friday but left the scene empty-handed.

Police were called to Betfred on Sandy Lane shortly after 6.40pm when a man brandished a black handgun at two members of staff and demanded money from the till.

One of the workers informed the man that the till was empty and the culprit left the shop heading towards Gough Avenue.

The suspect is described as being white, around 5ft 11ins and he is believed to be in his early 20s.

He was wearing black clothing including gloves, trousers, shoes and a hooded coat.

He also appeared to have dark hair.

Police say the handgun he was carrying was not fired and it has not yet been established if the weapon was real or an imitation.
