POLICE descended on Longford this afternoon following reports of suspicious activity in the area.
But following an investigation into the emergency call it is now believed to have been a hoax.
Witnesses reported seeing seven police cars arrive at the scene.
A police spokesman said: "Shortly before 2pm this afternoon, police received a call about possible suspicious activity on Gough Avenue, Warrington.
"Officers attended the scene and made a thorough search of the area, but there was no trace of anyone.
"At this stage it appears to be a hoax call.
"Enquiries are ongoing."
