A NEW children’s skin clinic has been opened up in the town centre.

Bath Street Health and Wellbeing Centre will run a paediatric dermatology clinic at the Bath Street Health and Wellbeing Centre twice a month.

Children and young people will be able to access treatment for conditions including eczema, psoriasis and strawberry marks at the clinics, which will be run by a GP with an accreditation in dermatology and a specialist nurse.

The service has been created by NHS Warrington Clinical Commissioning Group in collaboration with Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and aims to reduce delays and improve access to treatment.

Carol Beesley, paediatric eczema nurse at Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are pleased to be able to provide expertise from an acute hospital service setting supported by Bridgewater clinicians in the local community.

“This service aims to reduce admissions, but also by delivering the service in the community we aim to reduce the anxiety of children and their parents of not having to come in to hospital for their treatment.”

Karen Griffiths, clinical manager for dermatology at Bridgewater, added: “We are extremely pleased that this new service has been launched for children and young people in the heart of the town centre so they can be seen and treated in their local community rather than in hospital.”
