A BIRCHWOOD Park-based engineering company has secured a £35m government contract.
The Ministry of Defence has today announced that Amec Foster Wheeler has won the multi-million pound contract to supply research and technology services to their naval nuclear programme.
Amec Foster Wheeler says the contract, which covers areas including materials, modelling, code development, thermal hydraulics and testing, will ‘sustain’ around 70 jobs at their offices and laboratories on Faraday Street and in Dorchester.
Defence minister Harriet Baldwin said: “Long-term investment in innovative research and technology like this is absolutely essential to ensuring that Britain’s nuclear programme remains cutting-edge.
“Underpinned by the UK’s rising defence budget and £178bn 10-year equipment plan, this new deal will help protect Britain and secure scores of highly-skilled jobs in Warrington and Dorset.”
