IT was a better year on Warrington’s roads for male learner drivers than females as figures show more men passed their driving tests than women.

In the past year, 52.4 per cent of men who got behind the wheel at the Warrington test centre passed in comparison to 43 per cent of women.

In fact more men than women have passed their driving test at the Festival Avenue centre every year since it opened in 2012.

Between April and September 2016, 527 men and 517 women earned their licences out of the 2,207 people who took the exam.

And if you are planning to lose your L plates this year, autumn could be the best time to book your test.

Warrington Guardian:

The highest number of learners hoping to pass in 2016 got their licences in September, when just over 51 per cent of people got the green light from driving instructors.

To pass the test drivers must make no dangerous faults and fewer than 15 minor mistakes.

In the past year, nine men and three women managed to ace the test on their first attempt without any faults whatsoever.

The top ten reasons for failing were also published and included drivers not checking their mirrors before changing direction, losing control of their steering and not obeying traffic lights.

Hopeful learners were also let down by poor reverse parking, failing to check for oncoming traffic at junctions and ignoring road markings.
