IT’S a question that’s been asked in many Warrington households for years.

Pizza has already been decided as the takeaway of choice but which of Warrington’s three major chains do you choose from?

Some might say it’s a cheesy idea to run a pizza delivery test.

But after countless arguments, fallouts and squabbles, we decided it was time to find out which major pizza chain could not be topped.

And while we know there are lots of high-quality independent pizza delivery services in the town, we have only included Dominoes, Pizza Hut and Papa John’s in this test as we were ordering on a weekday lunchtime when many of their smaller competitors were closed.

Orders were put in for a large pepperoni pizza from each outlet shortly after 12.15pm.

But which one made it to our new office in Centre Park first?

In a particularly speedy 25 minutes, Dominos were first at our door after making the 1.5-mile journey from their base in Stockton Heath.

They were followed by Pizza Hut, who had covered 1.9 miles from Latchford village in 29 minutes, and then finally Papa Johns from the town centre, a 1.5-mile journey according to Google Maps, in 32 minutes.

Time to get out our ruler and make a few quick calculations….

L-R: Dominos, Pizza Hut and Papa John's pepperoni pizzas

And then it was time to find out which one received the biggest slice of love from our reporters.

Papas and Dominos leapt into an early lead due to the lack of garlic dip to accompany the Pizza Hut pizza and a ‘doughier’ base.

The Pizza Hut crust did prove popular with half the room however.

Papas was rated highly for being generous with its toppings but the garlic dip came in for some criticism, described as tasting like ‘melted margarine’ and ‘immediate regret’ over slathering it on to their pizza.

So while they could not be beaten on price and the delivery times were close, our incredibly scientific experiment saw Dominos edge into the lead thanks to it's 'firm base', 'delicious' garlic dip and 'moreish' toppings.
