A PENKETH care home has been rated as good by the healthcare watchdog following an inspection.

Heathside care home on Honiton Way has received a positive report from the Care Quality Commission following an unannounced inspection in August.

The home provides accommodation and personal care for up to 40 older people, some of whom have dementia.

A total of 35 people were living in the home at the time of the inspection.

The chief executive of Warrington Community Living, the charity that runs the home and the neighbouring Heathside Mews, welcomed the CQC report.

Michael Sheppard said: "We are very pleased that this home has been recognised by the CQC for the good service it provides to the local community.

"The majority of people who live in Heathside come from the nearby areas of Penketh and Sankey and as a local charity we are committed to ensuring it remains a vibrant part of the local community.

"We will continue to strive to meet the needs of this community - in fact later this year we are hoping to announce our plans for a full refurbishment of Heathside and the Mews so that we can offer even better facilities for local older people and their carers."

The two-storey Heathside was built in 1965 and has been run by WCL since 1991.

Care home manager Sarah Gardner added: "I have a great team of colleagues who are all dedicated to making sure the people who live here are well and comfortable.

"I am really proud that the team's hard work and desire to make a real difference in people's lives has been recognised by the CQC in this way."
