IT'S cold, Christmas is a distant memory and after polishing off a large glass of wine and forgetting to go to the gym for the third day in a row, you've already broken all of your New Year's resolutions.

These are just some of the reasons why the third Monday in January has been dubbed Blue Monday - the most depressing day of the year.

But fear not if this news has you receding under your duvet and considering staying there.

As fortunately for us there's plenty of reasons to be cheerful in Warrington...so here's five to get those positive thoughts flowing.

1. It's not long now until the season starts

And what better way to start than a Catalan away trip.

So getting packing your primrose and blue suitcase and break out that 'It's always our year' smile as there's only three weekends to get through now before rugby returns.

2. Laughter is the best medicine

Turn that frown upside down by getting tickets for one of the many stand-up comedians heading to the Parr Hall over the next six weeks.

Options include Ken Dodd,  Omid Djalili, Al Murray and 'Mouth from the south' Rob Beckett.

3. There's plenty of new places to get your teeth into

If your diet has already gone out of the window, you might as well embrace all the new exciting eateries opening up in the town.

American-themed bar and restaurant Stockyard opened its doors before Christmas.

Or if it's Thai food that tickles your tastebuds you're in for a treat as DD Thai Food Restaurant and Bar opened on Church Street at the end of last year and new Thai tapas restaurant Chiangmai will be welcoming diners on London Road at the end of this month.

4. A night-in in front of the TV just got better

Idris Elba: Fighter starts at 10pm tomorrow, Tuesday, on Discovery Channel.

And you can read our interview with Warren Brown here.

5. It's not too late to set a goal

It may be bending the rules slightly but New Year's resolutions don't have to start on the 1st of Jan.

So get signed up for the next Parkrun in Victoria Park and who knows, you could be hopping from one foot to the other on the start line for September's English Half Marathon before you know it.

Can you think of any other reasons to be cheerful in Warrington this month?
