A NEW housing development could be built on the site of a coach depot in Padgate.

The Millman's depot next to Padgate Station could be turned in a total of 31 properties if the plans are approved by Warrington Borough Council's planning department.

But residents and the council's highways department have raised concerns over the scheme.

Woolston-based property company the House Maker has submitted the application to build 17 three-bed houses, five four-bed homes and nine two-bed apartments at the 85.6sq m Green Lane site.

The properties would range between two and three storeys in height, replacing buildings described as 'dilapidated' by the applicant.

The apartment block has been earmarked for affordable housing, with four being sold and five being put on the rental market.

However, objections have been raised by both residents and highways officers over the impact on roads in the area, worries over the privacy of present homeowners and the loss of wildlife, with bats having been sited in the area.

In his objection Shawbury Grove resident Ian Hull said: "The access to the site will be very tricky given it is located very close to the mini-roundabout at the junction with Padgate Lane.

"Also due to the curvature of the road coming south from the roundabout it will now make it difficult for drivers to see emerging vehicles.

"The proposed exit from the development emerges right next to the crossing point, making it even more difficult for pedestrians to cross an already busy road."

Wenlock Close resident Tony Grehan added that the development would affect his privacy in his objection.

He said:"These houses will overlook the front of my house and more importantly overlook my bedroom and lounge, those invading my privacy along with that of my neighbours."
