A MAN from Warrington has died following a fatal crash involving three cars in Widnes.

Police were called to the scene yesterday, Tuesday, at 4.35pm after a silver Vauxhall Vectra came off the A562 Speke Road Liverpool-bound carriageway, close to the junction of the Knowsley Expressway.

The driver of the vehicle, who is believed to be a 48-year-old man from Warrington, died at the scene. 

Police have confirmed that a child, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was taken to Alder Hey as a precautionary measure.

A spokesman for North West Ambulance NHS Trust said: “A male patient approximately six-years-old was taken to Alder Hey as a major trauma patient.”

Fire crews were also in attendance at the scene.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision involving three cars with one person trapped.

“The crew stabilised one of the vehicles which was in a ditch as a precaution and assisted paramedics with first aid.”

Next of kin are being informed and a formal ID is due to take place today, Wednesday.

Investigating officers have urged anyone with information to come forward.
