A MOTORIST hopes the powers of social media will help him to track down a suspected hit and run driver who left his car in a state of disrepair.

Mitch Lears, from Bewsey, has published an appeal online in the hope of tracing the person responsible for causing his car to be written off.

The 32-year-old was driving home from work at United Utilities when  another motorist ploughed into his car on Tanners Lane on November 9 at 6.40pm.

He said: “I think I was just in shock at first.

“I only passed my test in January and I have not been involved in a crash before.

“My first reaction was to get out of the car to see if the other driver was ok even though I wasn’t at fault.

“But he just stuck his fingers up at me and drove off.

“My car has now been written off and because the insurance don’t know the person to claim against they won’t give me a courtesy car.”

Mitch was driving a light blue Nissan Almera at the time of the crash.
Due to the quick getaway of the driver, Mitch was unable to write down the car details but believes the vehicle was either a dark-coloured Vauxhall Vectra or an old Astra.

But he hopes other drivers on the road at the time will be able to come forward to help.

He added: “If anyone sees a car with damage to the bumper then they should report it to the police.

“The police are now involved and they are keen to catch the person because it’s a crime to leave the scene of a crash.

“There were other cars on the road so I’m hoping one of them will see this appeal and be able to help.”
