AS we prepare for the winter months ahead, volunteers are asking residents to think of the town’s homeless facing frosty nights and in need of the essential items many of us take for granted.

Used winter coats, blankets and sleeping bags are in short supply and would be gratefully received by staff at the Winmarleigh Street centre.

Laundry B clothes shop in Stockton Heath has thrown its support behind the charity by donating warm hats, scarves, gloves and socks and YMCA volunteer Susan Crank said the campaign could have a life-saving impact.

“I have been crowdfunding and raised £1,400 so far to go towards keeping the night shelter and the YMCA open.

“We’re asking people to drop in any items to keep people warm and vital items like toothpaste, underwear and tampons – just basic things that the homeless can’t get hold of.

“Anyone can donate through the crowdfunding page too. Just £3.50 can help keep someone warm for the night.

“We have had a great response so far and there are lots of people doing little things to help but we need more people to be aware of the campaign as the weather is going to get colder.”

Items can be donated at the YMCA and to give to the fundraising page visit justgiving.com/fundraising/Susan-Crank.
