FRIENDS and family of a seven-year-old boy who will be spending all of Christmas and New Year in hospital are hoping to cheer him up with their Christmas jumper selfies and are asking people across the town to get involved.

Jenson Wright was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic lymphoma when he was just four years old and after battling the disease for more than two and a half years, the cancer returned.

The brave Penketh South Primary pupil is now back in hospital waiting for a stem cell transplant, which his family hope will happen sometime over the festive season.

Mum Carolyn Wright said: “After enduring over two and half years of treatment, just six short weeks after it ended we had the devastating news that the cancer had returned.

“This was unfortunately a side effect of the previous drugs he took which should have cured him but instead have left Jenson battling for his life for a second time.”

To cheer Jenson up and show him that he is not missing out, the daughter of a family friend, Phoebe Cook, came up with the idea for a fundraising campaign called the Christmas Jumper for Jenson day.

Carolyn has invited schools and businesses across the town to hold a Christmas jumper day to raise money and awareness for childhood cancer.

Jenson’s first school, Callands Primary, and his current school, Penketh South, have already signed up and Carolyn hopes many more people across the town will get involved to make Jenson’s Christmas that little bit more special.

“There’s always a good reason to wear your Christmas jumper and it’s a nice way to get people in the festive spirit. We want to cheer Jenson up and let him know people are thinking of him,” Carolyn added.

People are invited to share their Jumpers for Jenson selfies on the Facebook page, facebook.com/TheJourneyOfJenson and to get involved or donate, visit gofundme.com/jensonsjourneytocancercure or email calwright35@googlemail.com.
